Re: The Majorana-Pelizza machine: truth or umpteenth mockery?

I must confess that at first sight I misread the title of this topic as “The Majorana Pizza Machine” 😁

Re: The Majorana-Pelizza machine: truth or umpteenth mockery?

If mr. Majorana counted Enrico Fermi and Niels Bohr among his colleagues (or friends) he’s definitely an interesting fellow! I never heard of him before, thanks. It’s a really odd story how he vanished, by the way. As for that machine - I don’t know. One video does not prove anything. Anyone could m...

Re: Thinking in Pictures: Gnosticism and Autism

My experience led me to the rule: do not think, do not imagine. Of course, it is almost impossible to do. But if you still get it, then you can "see" - some scenes like sleeping in reality. This is exactly what the goal of the sort of (guided or active) imagination is that we pursue and what we are...

Re: Discussion split off from ‘Gondolin music’

If they only knew that their belief it that regard is pure delusion, it might go some way towards setting them straight (although in the Trumpian 'post-Truth' world, I doubt it). Or to use that famous Sigmund Freud quote, "sometimes a cigar is really just a cigar." I get your point of course, but I...

Re: Thinking in Pictures: Gnosticism and Autism

I’d think that since the most significant hurdle to take is to realise that the culture you grew up in determines how you perceive the world. Today’s western culture states that “imaginal equals false”, so that’s what everyone thinks. That’s why even religious people can only think about religion as...

Re: Discussion split off from ‘Gondolin music’

To add to that: what really never ceases to amaze me is the irresistible need that people have to explain things that need no explanation. I find this especially jarring in just about anything that was ever written about Tolkien. Even people whom I have in very high regard in all sorts of ways have ...

Re: Discussion re. Markus Davidsen’s thesis

That (the line of Lúthien) is indeed a very interesting approach, as is the whole concept of mytho-history. Actually, Lance Owens discusses the concept behind it (or at least that’s how I understand it) in the third part of that Tolkien lecture series. Let me see if I can reproduce the argument he m...

Re: Discussion re. Markus Davidsen’s thesis

Well, speaking for myself, I simply wasn’t much interested in adding Numenorian stuff to what already was quite a lot of “new and exciting” and at times a bit confusing given the different approaches.

Re: Discussion re. Markus Davidsen’s thesis

(...) Davidsen's thesis is a subject of interest for everyone, in my opinion... Well, I think it is rather of interest to sociologists or theologists, but certainly not to Gnostics - in the same way as that you won’t become a better author if you would take a course about the history of literary cr...

Re: Discussion re. Markus Davidsen’s thesis

Hi Mildir,

I’m not sure if you mean that there are other posts by you re. Markus’ thesis other than the ones in this topic? Of so can you please point me to them? Then I can add them to this topic (if you want).
