The Ironic Imperative

Somehow I came across the name of a literary critic named Harold Bloom the other day, and read a bit about him. It was in fact about him critiquing the Harry Potter book series, though it seems he feels roughly the same about any work of fantasy. Mr. Bloom is somewhat controversial. He still is held...

Re: Question Regarding Ilúvatar

Ahh yes, the tale of Adanel - that's what I was referring to in the discussion about sacrifices. The name eluded me there.

Re: Question Regarding Ilúvatar

One thing that comes to mind: the interaction he had with Aulë when he had created the dwarves (starting with "Why hast thou done this thing, that thou knowest is beyond thy power and thy authority"), and later on in that story, his exchange with Manwë (based on Manwë's discussion with Yavanna) (sta...

Re: Is it psychopathology or nihilism?

Although now, cynic that I am, I wonder if I could get rich constructing "Piss-Trump" reliquaries. ;) What are you waiting for? B-) Was it this article? The Bankrupt Nihilism of Our Fallen Fantasists I'm mildly amazed, as usually I just think of that site as " Stormfront Lite." Yes, that's the one....

Re: Is it psychopathology or nihilism?

On a completely unrelated topic I'll post here, because it's not worth mentioning anywhere else... On the contrary, this is a great subject! I've often wondered about it as well, not based on an experience with a specific person or even connected to psychopathology, but more as a cultural phenomeno...

There's one thing I must admit I admire intensely in Americans: you certainly know how to come up with brilliant expressions :D

Especially southern slang is rife with it :)

Re: Is it psychopathology or nihilism?

I'm also curious - did she open up about her condition or is it something you merely suspect? At one job I had a manager of whom we were pretty certain that he was a clinical psychopath as well. Not the Hollywood variety who's into killing people in inconvenient ways of course, but it was just a dee...

Re: Why 'The Central Myths'?

Hey, sorry, I was a bit busy last week. But how about that as a new topic on the main discussion board? Anyone interested in discussing the central myths of either the Gnostics, Nietzsche, or Jung? I'm no expert on any, by any means, but I can pierce beneath the surface to dig out some hidden meanin...

Re: Why 'The Central Myths'?

Your're not boring me with technicalities. Quite the contrary, in fact :) - I find it very interesting to know more about that. I don't know very much about philosophy, at least not in the academic / scholarly sense of the word. I read Plato and some "history of philosophy"-type books, and I'm very ...

Re: Melian and Thingol in Nan Elmoth

It's very nice. I love the effect of the stars wheeling around the sky beyond the trees to show the long passage of time. How are you making these images? Is it entirely digital? What program are you using? It's a great image that captures the moment. Thanks! I've mostly used Procreate for this one...

Melian and Thingol in Nan Elmoth

I got around to working on this one as well. It suffered from the same lack of composition and especially Melian's face was not very well done (see this earlier topic) I think it is now quite a bit better. melian-thingol-v2.jpg Now when their journey was near its end, as has been told, the people of...
