Oxonmoot 2014 art show

Post by Lúthien » Wed Sep 17, 2014 6:50 am

I was asked to participate in the Oxonmoot art show in Oxford this year.
However, I overlooked the original invitation email because, in my mail inbox, it looked like a Facebook notification email.
Luckily they did send a reminder, but by then it was a bit late to arrange actually going there. But I could also participate by sending in some work, which I did: I had some drawings printed in a UK based print shop that mailed them to the Tolkien Society.

Because I neither had a lot of time to prepare work for the occasion I reworked some that I had made earlier and that I felt needed some tweaking (or in the case of the Yavanna one, I tried to make it more drawing-like).
I also worked out the Gondolin scene that I sketched several years ago and that could use a bit more detail; and the drawing of the Two Trees that I posted in here earlier.

Luthien - these are fantastic!! You are so fortunate that many Tolkien events happen on your side of the pond! Not much goes on here in the USA I am afraid. The only thing close to me is the fandom of TheOneRing.net and I cannot even go to their annual party this year as I will be in Bali!

Wondering if anything further happened with these? ;-) Since the Oxonmoot event I mean :-)

Thank you! I didn't go there in person though: it turned out to be too much hassle on too short a term. Instead I made a few good prints that I sent to Elena Krysova of the Tolkien Society, who put them in the art show. Also because they were prints and not originals, I donated the prints for them to sell, respecting the copyright of course. Apparently three were sold (the Two Trees, Gondolin, and one more (I should look it up) - and the others they kept for the next occasion.

Congratulations, Lúthien! Wonderful work! It's a real pity that Tolkien never delighted us with a full description of the glory of Gondolin in his late writings. Your paintings compensate that loss! :)

Thank you, that's a huge compliment!
There are quite a few others who make wonderful Legendarium based artwork though :)

Yes, John Howe is my favourite one. He has made wonderful pictures of Gondolin too!
