Full text poems of Geoffrey Bache Smith

Post by Meneldur Olvarion » Tue Mar 13, 2018 12:28 am

Geoffrey Bache Smith was Tolkien's friend in college just prior to WWI. He was killed in battle in late 1916, and two years later JRRT helped publish a book of his poems entitled A Spring Harvest. This book is rather hard to find, but just a few minutes ago I found the full text up on github: [link].

Added: Link I just saved to the Wayback Machine, in case that github account disappears due to someone screeching about "Copyright Infringement!!!": [link]

Hey thanks. I also found those some time ago, but I never mentioned it yet.
They turned up after I read a bit in 'Tolkien and the Great War', which contains some letters between JRRT and his friends of the TCBS. Some of it is very touching, knowing what happened to those guys soon thereafter. I find it a very noble thing of him to have published his friend's work like that.
A! Elin velui, dîn dolog, aduial lúthad!
