A Silmaril Shined

Post by Elrond »

Flowing together like two stars in the night,
Drifting as one as they flow on this flight.
Eyes are like stars with magical mists,
Even if stars never have kissed.
To the halls of Mandos they went,
Not knowing why they were sent.
Tragedy transformed by ancient love.
Guided only by Earendil above.
The gift of the Eldar, the doom of men,
Will they shine forever or burn out again?
All is unknown and all is concealed,
Only the truth of love is revealed.
Hand bitten by darkness, yet the Silmaril shined,
Yet could love be rekindled and life they would find?
Slain was the enemy but all seemed to be lost,
Was the search for the Silmaril worth such a cost?
The song of the grieving in Mandos did sing,
Long before the end of the One Ring.
In land of seven rivers like stars of Remmirath,
They could continue upon a brief path.
In place where Star-spray was to be born,
In sanctuary of isle and not forlorn ….
So briefly they danced in Ossiriand,
Only to await the fate and doom of men.

Very sad, but beautiful.  I love that it speaks of the fading of ancient glories.
"The time of Moonsheen has passed. The noontide of the dominion of Men is waning. Soon will come the era of Starshine. And the ages will partake of both; the grace of Moonsheen and the glory of the Days of the Sun" -Mormeril

Yes, sad but beautiful.......
too bad the "ancient glories" don't return.... what with all the wars and chaos In individual lives I swear sometimes Morgoth is afoot again! *shudder*

The poem is indeed beautiful. Thank you for posting it.

Do you not see it then? As long as beautiful things are being made, ancient glory lingers and remains.

Do not despair! I may be unreasonably optimistic but somehow I have always this feeling deep down .. it's also described so well in LOTR - ROTK

“Then you think that the Darkness is coming?” said Éowyn. “Darkness Unescapable?” [..]
“No,” said Faramir [...]. “It was but a picture in the mind. I do not know what is happening. The reason of my waking mind tells me that great evil has befallen and we stand at the end of days. But my heart says nay; and all my limbs are light, and a hope and joy are come to me that no reason can deny."
